Don’t you just love that perfectly rested feeling when you open your eyes after a full night of sleep? It seems that we’re constantly discovering more and more reasons why getting enough sleep is vital. The benefits of getting a healthy amount include a much-needed boost to your immune system, support for your mental wellbeing and your memory and an incredible positive lift for your overall health.

So to celebrate World Sleep Day (like we need an excuse!) we’ve gathered a few easy tips and tricks you can follow to help you indulge in a wonderfully full night’s sleep.

- Have a strong routine. Make sure you have the same bedtime and wakeup time, even on weekends.

- Practise a relaxing bedtime ritual, such as yoga or pilates.

- Scribbling down your next day’s to-do list can also be a great help. Drawing thoughts out of your head and onto paper before bed will help to relax your mind and put you on a good footing for the new day.

- Avoid naps at all costs, especially in the afternoon.

- Exercise at least three times a week to stay as fit and healthy as possible. Exercising will tire you out and help you to get to sleep more easily.

- Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillow.

- Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and heavy meals in the evening.

- Wind down, listen to a relaxing podcast or read a book. Light your favourite candle.

- Use herbal oils and sleep sprays
