Valentine’s Day is all about love, and isn’t that something the world needs more of? Beyond celebrating with your Valentine, there are other ways that you can spread the love this February, with simple acts of kindness. The good thing about kindness is that it’s scientifically proven to be good for both the giver as well as the receiver. Studies have shown that being kind and giving care can boost your life satisfaction, make you less anxious, and can even help you live longer. Here are seven ways you can brighten someone’s day (and your own) with some simple acts of kindness:

The kindness of strangers
A great way to do this it to do something kind to complete strangers. You might just change the course of someone’s day without them even knowing it. Consider paying for coffee for the person behind you in the queue, handing someone your paid for parking ticket once you leave the car park or even making a point of leaving positive reviews on TripAdvisor to all of the local businesses that you frequent.

Take someone out for coffee
All you need is half an hour and a little spare cash. We all need human connection. And while throwing an extra five pounds on your card so your fellow caffeine addict can get a coffee is one thing, actually taking the time to sit down with them is even better because it gives you both the opportunity to connect with each other.

Let it go
Research has proven that forgiving comes with a side of health benefits that includes lowering levels stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, as well as lowering blood pressure. To reap the stress-busting benefits, give up one of your grievances. Forgive someone of a debt they owe you. You’ll be releasing both of you from a burden. And quite possibly improving your health too.

Donate on behalf of your Valentine
Ask your Valentine what their favourite charity is, and donate the same amount of money that you would usually have spent on a gift or a fancy dinner to that charitable cause. Many charity organisations will even send letters of notification to those you donate to in honour of.

Lighten the load
Show love to another family who might need the help that you can give at this time. Consider donating your time to help them with household chores to help lighten their load, such as gardening, babysitting for the evening, or even cooking them a meal for an evening.

It really can be quite simple to make a positive difference on this day dedicated to sharing love, if we just look outwards versus focusing inwards. Look & Cover would like to wish you all a happy Valentines Day full of love for yourself, your loved ones and your entire community. x
