The Big Day Is Almost Here!

It is only a few days to go until this year's London Marathon

If you're one of the 42,000 runners who will be warming up at the start line in Blackheath, you'll have spent months focusing on being ready for the big race. Whether it's the first time you're taking on the 26.2 mile route, or even if you're a marathon veteran, a lot of hard work and effort has gone into getting you to this date.

It takes real strength not just physically but mentally; spending dark winter mornings getting your training sessions in before the school run or heading out after a long day at work when all you wanted to do was curl up in front of the TV. Whenever or however you have trained, congratulations on challenging yourself and coming this far - you're already a winner in our eyes!

Beyond Just A Race

Our wonderful founder, Anna will be running her second London Marathon this year. Like many of you, she will be running to raise funds for a well-deserving cause -  Whizz Kidz. The charity transforms the lives of disabled children by providing the vital equipment, support and life skills they need to reach their full potential.

By running for Whizz Kidz, Anna’s marathon fundraising will help young people with disabilities achieve the independence and confidence they deserve. Anna, we couldn't be more proud of you and we will all be cheering you on from Cumbria!

If, like Anna, you are running for a charity, remember to focus on that as much as you can when you start to tire - the London Marathon is so much more than just a race! You are raising money to make a difference, be that in research, human aid, animal aid or the environment - YOU are the vehicle, YOU are making change and YOU have pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone to help worthy causes. Be proud of that. And, use it to empower you, dig a little deeper, and drive you to that finish line, because trust us, the achievement you’ll feel once you’ve completed the race will be unlike anything else. Remember to celebrate that.

With marathon motivation in mind, we thought we’d put together a few of our favourite inspiring quotes to keep going:

“Our running shoes have magic in them. The power to transform a bad day into a good day; frustration into speed; self-doubt into confidence; chocolate cake into muscle.”

- Mina Samuels, author of Run Like a Girl

“Your body will argue that there is no justifiable reason to continue. Your only recourse is to call on your spirit, which fortunately functions independently of logic.”
- Tim Noakes

“Be somebody nobody thought you could be.”

- Unknown

“Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement.”

- Matt Biondi

“Some of the world’s greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible.”

- Doug Larson, English Gold medalist

“Make sure your own worst enemy doesn’t live between your own two ears.”

- Laird Hamilton

Anna and the rest of the Look & Cover team would like to wish all of you amazing London Marathon runners out there the very best of luck this Sunday.

Thousands of spectators will be ready to cheer you on, equipped with megaphones, cowbells and goodies to help you get to the finish line. The atmosphere will be electric!

Now, if you haven't started carb loading, hydrating and getting your sleep in yet what are you playing at?! Grab a giant water bottle, start boiling your pasta and get snuggly in your pjs.

See you at the start line!
