For many families up and down the country, February half term is a chance to spend some quality time together and have fun while school’s out. The dates can vary by region, but as a general guide, February half term across England takes place from Monday 18th - Friday 22nd February 2019. Whether your little ones are outdoorsy, into museums, or love cinema, there’s something for every family. Here are our picks of the best February half term activities in the UK:

Visiting special places nationwide with the National Trust
There might be a bit of a chill in the air, but if you wrap up warm you’ll find that there are still lots of adventures to be had in the great outdoors with the National Trust. Gibside in Northumberland is a great spot for a squelchy, barefoot mud walk, or you could head to Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk to learn all about identifying flowers, building fires and how to use a map. You can also give nature a helping hand at Crom in County Fermanagh, where the rangers will teach you how to build a nest box for birds to hang in your garden.

Go Ape Junior, Nationwide
Many adults have enjoyed trying Go Ape – the outdoorsy activity trail that allows you to scale trees, zip line and generally have lots of fun. But did you know there’s also a kids’ version? Go Ape Junior entails canopy exploring and overcoming obstacles before zip wiring back down to the ground, all in the space of an hour. Go Ape Junior is based at various locations around the country from Yorkshire to Dorset.

Half Term Tales at Shakespeare's Globe, London
16th - 21st February 2019
Delve into some fantastic historical stories through storytelling sessions and workshops as part of Half Term Tales. Pull on your wellies and splash through stories about water, rivers and storms. Families can explore the world around The Tempest in workshops and storytelling sessions and enjoy taking part in activities inspired by myths and legends from around the world.

Lambing Festival at Cannon Hall Farm, South Yorkshire
16th - 24th February 2019
February half term marks the start of lambing season, so this is an event that’s definitely not to be missed. One of the most exciting times in the farming calendar, the team here will be caring for a whopping 300 pregnant ewes, due to give birth over the half term break. With daily talks, tractor rides and soft play too, there’s plenty for a farm-tastic family day out. Pssst, if you can’t make it, the farm will also be hosting Lambing Live on Facebook, where you can watch adorable lambs being born from home!

Hands-on Half Term at Beaulieu, Hampshire
16th - 24th February 2019
Get hands on this half term, with loads of exciting activities at Beaulieu as part of it’s 50 years of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang exhibition. See amazing machines, discover curious gadgets, design a wacky invention and build your own balloon car, all before seeing Chitty in action driving around the grounds (weather depending!). Pick up your travel log on arrival and be sure to complete all the challenges to collect all the stamps.

King John’s Castle at Corfe Castle, Dorset
16th - 24th February 2019
There’s a whole heap of half term fun at Corfe Castle, with medieval activities for the whole family. From watching missiles launch and guessing how far they’ll go, to getting hands-on with some themed craft activities, our favourite highlight has to be the teddy bear Great Escape. Bring your own brave teddy or borrow one to help rescue prisoners, before watching them try the teddy’s very own zip wire. Action packed for the whole family, can we come along too?

Mini Farmer Week at Godstone Farm, Surrey
16th - 24th February 2019
Perfect for little animal lovers, kids can get a true taste of farmer life at Godstone Farm this February half term. Follow the farm trail to collect stamps, with plenty of animal encounters along the way. From feeding and grooming, to milking and lots of learnings about taking care of farmyard animals, it’s the ideal introduction to farm life for the whole family. Don’t miss the indoor play area, too!

Fairies & Dragons at Marsh Farm, Essex
18th - 24th February 2019
Experience half term magic at Marsh Farm this February, as Fairies and Dragons take over the attraction! With themed activities, live entertainment and more, there’s even set to be some unicorn-themed fun too. Make sure you book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Scarecrow Festival at Tatton Park, Cheshire

There’s some peculiar new characters in the gardens at Tatton Park this half term, all thanks to the charming Scarecrow Festival taking place! With over 30 scarecrows dotted around the gardens, your family’s mission is to find them all - are you up for the challenge? The festival is open from 10am-4pm each day, and is included in your normal entry price!

Knights & Princesses at Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire
16th - 24th February 2019
Step back in time for a historic half term, with loads of hands-on medieval fun at Kenilworth Castle! Budding knights and princesses can enter the academy at the castle to learn all the skills they need, from curtsies to combat! You’ll arrive with kids, and be leaving with your very own courtly Lords and Ladies - just don’t let their new royal titles go to their heads!

Vets in Action at ZSL London Zoo, Greater London
16th - 24th February 2019
Step into the shoes of the team of vets at ZSL London Zoo, with a fun role-play style Animal Hospital event taking place this half term. Your kids will be at the heart of the action, assisting the team with procedures one some poorly soft toy animals to get them back on their feet. From giving a toy tiger cub a health check and operating on a cuddly turtle, it’s the ultimate inspiration for any budding young vets. Free with entry to the zoo, this event is also taking place at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Training the Troops at Pendennis Castle, Cornwall
18th - 22nd February 2019
Have you got what it takes to defend the castle? Put your skills to the test at Pendennis Castle, as the Drill Sergeant puts the whole family through its paces. This fun obstacle course will see you crawl through tunnels, walk the plank and have a go at defending the castle walls. Plus, it’s one the whole family can get involved in - why not try a bit of friendly family competition?

Superhero Week at Pink Pig Farm, Lincolnshire
15th - 24th February 2019
Grab your capes for a super week of fun at Pink Pig Farm. Letting your little’uns channel their inner superhero, there will be games, activities and crafts all with a superhero theme, including Hulk smash wall and a Captain America frisbee game. With loads more things to do too, it’s a great day out for the whole family.

Bottle feed goats at Odds Farm Park, Buckinghamshire

Half term is all about new arrivals at Odds Farm Park, as official lamb watch begins! Head to the Little Hooves Nursery to see all the new arrivals, and keep a close eye on the ewes - you may even be lucky enough to see a lamb being born during your visit. It’s not just lambs that’s worth the trip though, head to KIDergarten for the chance to bottle feed adorable kid goats, check out the giant indoor play barn or let off steam in the acres of outdoor adventure play. 

Victorians at St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff
25th - 28th February 2019
Half term falls a little later in Wales, so the fun begins at St Fagans National Museum of History from 25th February 2019. Inspired by the Victorian era, families can step back in time to find out what life was like in the 19th century and discover some traditional toys. For an additional £2, you can even try to make your own peg doll to take home. 

The Science of Power at British Motor Museum, Warwickshire
16th - 24th February 2019
This half term event at the British Motor Museum is all about exploring power, and the science behind it! Learn all about jet powered cars and have a go at building one for yourself, join Professor Pumpkin and Doctor Pickle for live science shows and follow the family trail around the museum to see if you can find the fastest car! Great for all ages, visit once and you can return for free as many times as you like for the whole year!

Pirate School at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
16th - 24th February 2019
Discover your sea legs at this fun-filled half term event, as Pirate School arrives at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Head to the visitor centre to meet a pesky pirate, before setting on a self-guided trail around the dockyard. Find all the Pirate Mates to learn some new tricks and take part in some fun themed activities, as well as listening to stories from the seven seas.

Fantasy February at ROARR! Dinosaur Adventure, Norfolk

Fire up your imagination and step into a whole fantasy world, with this brand new event at ROARR! Dinosaur Adventure. Don your best fantasy-themed fancy dress to get 50% off on-the-gate admission and take part in fun workshops (£1 per child) in partnership with the Fairyland Trust. Plus, with a whole park packed full of dinosaur-themed adventure, there are plenty of reasons to visit this half term. 

Jawsome Sharks at SEA LIFE Manchester, Greater Manchester
8th February - 6th May 2019
Running for much longer than most half term events, you’ll have plenty of time to pay a visit to SEA LIFE Manchester. Help Professor Finn to find missing shark’s teeth and become a Jawsome Park Ranger, all whilst discovering hundreds of underwater species, including sharks themselves! With fascinating facts, hands-on activities and loads more too, each child can also take home a special Play-Doh gift.

Half term events at Hardwick Park, County Durham
16th - 24th February 2019
There’s a different event taking place each day of the half term at Hardwick Park, from Spy School and Wildlife CSI, to Cool Science with Professor OneSmith. With hands on activities mainly suitable for kids aged 5+, booking is required for each activity and comes at an additional cost. If you fancy something a bit more relaxed, follow the footprints on the park trail to learn more about animals - the sheet is just £1 and can be picked up from the gift shop during opening hours.
